Driving Decarbonisation in
Maritime Transport

Transform Your Fleet with DECO2 Technology

The Challenge of CO2 Emissions in Maritime Transport

The maritime industry, a cornerstone of global trade, is responsible for transporting over 90% of the world’s goods. However, this crucial sector also contributes significantly to climate change, producing approximately 3% of global CO2 emissions—a figure comparable to the total emissions of some industrialised nations.

Ships rely heavily on solid and fossil fuels, such as heavy fuel oil, to power their operations. While these fuels are cost-effective and energy-dense, their combustion generates large quantities of carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas that traps heat in the atmosphere and drives global warming.

DECO2® Technology: CO2 removal in ships

DECO2® is an innovative and advanced carbon capture and conversion technology. Its primary goal is to help ships significantly reduce their CO2 emissions by capturing the carbon dioxide released during the combustion of fossil fuels.

Using Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH)

DECO2 captures CO2 emissions and reacts them with sodium hydroxide to produce sodium carbonate (Na₂CO₃), a high-purity, marketable product widely used in industries such as glass manufacturing, ceramics, and water treatment. This option not only reduces emissions but also generates economic value.

Using Calcium Hydroxide (Ca(OH)₂)

Alternatively, DECO2 can use calcium hydroxide to produce calcium carbonate (CaCO₃). This by-product can be safely dissolved in the ocean, contributing to carbon sequestration without harming marine ecosystems. It represents a sustainable solution for reducing emissions while supporting the natural carbon cycle.

KEY BENEFITS

DECO2 Technology

01

Emission reduction

Up to 99% of CO2 emissions can be captured and processed, thanks to an advanced reactor design. The reactor is engineered to operate across a variable range of flow rates and CO2 concentrations, making it adaptable to different ship sizes and operational profiles.

02

Tailor-made solution

Whether your goal is to produce marketable materials or reduce emissions with minimal environmental impact, DECO2 delivers a flexible, efficient, and sustainable solution that aligns with your operational and environmental objectives.

03

Low operational impact

The technology integrates seamlessly with existing ship systems. The installation process is straightforward and minimally disruptive, enabling ships to maintain regular operations during implementation.

Innovators in Sustainable Shipping

At Drage & Mate Marine, we are dedicated to pioneering decarbonisation solutions, helping maritime clients significantly reduce their carbon footprint while meeting regulatory standards.

Our company proudly contributed to the development of the S80 submarine, a state-of-the-art vessel, by designing and implementing the CO2 capture in the catalytic reforming module.
